Taylor Swift’s Legal Team Slams “Meritless” The Life of a Showgirl Copyright Lawsuit

A month after Maren Flagg filed a copyright lawsuit against Taylor Swift for her The Life of a Showgirl album, the singer’s legal team has responded, calling the case “meritless.”
Taylor Swift will sue you if you step on her lawn—but she’ll also fight a lawsuit with just as much vigor.
Just over a month afterLas Vegas performer Maren Wade (real name Maren Flagg) sued the “Opalite” singer over the title of her album The Life of a Showgirl, alleging the name is too similar to Flagg’s copyrighted “Confessions of a Showgirl,” Swift’s legal team has responded to Flagg’s motion for preliminary injunction. If approved, the injunction would bar Swift from using The Life of a Showgirl title for the duration of the lawsuit.
In a filing obtained by E! News May 7, Swift’s legal camp called the motion and the lawsuit—filed on March 30—Wade’s “latest attempt to use Taylor Swift’s name and intellectual property to prop up her brand.”
Elsewhere in the filing, Swift’s legal team, which includes Mark N. Wellman, J. Douglas Baldridge and Katherine Wright Morrone, pointed out that, prior to filing her lawsuit in April, Flagg had used The Life of a Showgirl materials to promote her own work. (Indeed, Wade had shared several posts referring to Swift’s 12th album leading up to its release in October 2025.)
