Elon Musk offered to pay the salaries of US airport security staff during a funding standoff affecting the Department of Homeland Security.

TSA employees have been working without pay since mid-February, leading to long security lines and operational disruptions at airports.

Musk said he would “pay the salaries” during the impasse, citing the impact on travelers at airports across the US.

President Donald Trump said ICE agents could be deployed to airports for security if Democrats do not approve funding.

The TSA has about 65,000 employees with a payroll estimated at $2.5 billion to $3 billion, as over 300 staff have left since February 14 and some rely on second jobs, donations, and airport support.
