The kicktail bob, please take the stand.
Vidal Sassoon is the birthplace of iconic hairdressing techniques, and hair designers at Sassoon are some of the most skilled in the world. So when we spoke with Vidal Sassoon senior international creative director Mark Hayes and he told us that said kicktail bob would be a big haircut trend this season, we listened.
“The kicktail bob has a timeless line with a voluminous silhouette,” Hayes says. You could even say that the style is a sophisticated evolution of the cloud bob as it’s designed to give that desired volume and shape without heaviness. Hayes explains that a compact square line is cut first, then interior lengths are softened to create a light texture, perfect for creating the illusion of thicker strands on finer hair types.
When spring hits, short hair feels like a very good idea: less weight, less effort, and more shape. So, with the kicktail bob encompassing all three, there’s no better cut for the season.
In terms of how to style the kicktail bob, Hayes recommends proceeding with thought and care. Use a flat brush and wrap-dry technique to bend hair evenly and flip the ends outward. And to ensure control and shine, he says that a conditioning base or lightweight mousse can be added. The result is a polished, wearable bob that feels sculpted yet easygoing.
